A large slaughterhouse wastewater treatment plant in Paraná, Brazil, was experiencing poor sludge dewatering due to the high concentrations of proteins, fats, and organic matter in its biological sludge. The existing polymer resulted in high sludge moisture, long filtration cycles, and increasing disposal costs.

After on-site evaluation and laboratory testing, Hengfeng recommended Cationic Polyacrylamide C9802 together with process optimization, significantly improving sludge dewatering efficiency and reducing operating costs.

Initial Challenges

Before optimization, the plant experienced:

· Sludge cake moisture of 81–83%

· Filter press cycles over 3.2 hours

· Polymer dosage of 5.2–5.8 kg/t DS

· Sticky sludge cakes and frequent filter cloth blockage

· High sludge transportation and disposal costs

Hengfeng Solution

Hengfeng recommended Cationic Polyacrylamide C9802, featuring high molecular weight, optimized charge density, and excellent adsorption and bridging performance for biological sludge.

To maximize performance, Hengfeng also optimized:

· Polymer concentration increased to 0.15%

· Aging time extended to 60 minutes

· Polymer dosage reduced to 4.0–4.5 kg/t DS

· Polymer injection point relocated closer to the filter press

· Mixing intensity reduced to preserve floc strength
